Update from the MLTI Lab
Very excited to share several updates from the MLTI Lab!
1. Three new funded projects
In Spring 2026, I was awarded three grants. Serving as lead PI for two projects:
- Multimodal STEM+AI Classrooms: A Sociocultural Inquiry into Participatory Design for Collaborative Learning
- Multimodal Futures: Responsible AI for Equitable, Multilingual STEM Education Across Global Contexts
I am also serving as Co-PI for:
- Creating Open Access Textbook for Learning Theories and Practices: Past, Present, and Future
I am grateful to collaborate with wonderful colleagues and institutions across the States, Brazil, South Korea, and Uganda. I am also very much open to building new collaborations with scholars, educators, developers, and community partners who share a deep commitment to imagining more equitable classrooms and societies alongside rapid developments in AI and emerging technologies. Change needs sustained collaboration and shared long-term commitment, and I'd love to talk more about exploring future opportunities together!
2. Welcoming two undergraduate research assistants
Camyla Gonzalez and Dong-Geon Kim join the Multimodal STEM+AI Classrooms project. Camyla Gonzalez is a rising fourth-year student at the University of Virginia, majoring in Neuroscience. Dong-Geon Kim is a visiting undergraduate research assistant from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST), where he is majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Mathematical Sciences.
